VLA Principal's Message

VLA Principal's Message

Dear Phoenix Families,

Welcome to a new school year at the Virtual Learning Academy! Whether your family is returning or joining us for the first time, I am excited to welcome you to our community.

This year marks an exciting new chapter for VLA as we become a dedicated secondary program serving students in grades 7–12. By focusing exclusively on middle and high school students, we can better tailor our instruction, support systems, and student experiences to meet the unique needs of adolescents as they prepare for high school success, college, careers, and life beyond graduation.

VLA offers the flexibility of independent study while maintaining the connection and support that students need to thrive. Our students engage in rigorous online coursework, participate in live virtual instruction, and receive personalized academic support through regular teacher meetings. High school students have access to A–G aligned courses and a variety of electives, allowing them to stay on track for graduation while exploring their interests and future goals.

Learning at VLA extends beyond academics. We believe students are most successful when they feel connected to their school community. Throughout the year, students have opportunities to participate in virtual and in-person activities, including tutoring sessions, spirit events, clubs, recognition ceremonies, college and career activities, and family events designed to strengthen relationships and celebrate success.

Independent study is a partnership between students, families, and school staff. Your encouragement, communication, and involvement play an important role in your student's success. Together, we can help every student develop the confidence, responsibility, and skills needed to become independent learners and productive members of their communities.

We are honored to partner with your family and look forward to an outstanding school year together.

Rising Above, Soaring Ahead!

Sincerely,

Eric Hansen
