Dear Families,
It is with both a heavy heart and a deep sense of responsibility that I welcome you to the Virtual Learning Academy. As the new Interim Principal, I step into this role following the unexpected passing of our beloved principal, Mrs. Dietz. Her dedication, vision, and care for every student will continue to guide our work, and we honor her legacy by continuing the meaningful work she led with such passion.
On behalf of the entire staff of the Virtual Learning Academy, I welcome you to our online learning community. This year, our academy continues as a combined elementary and secondary program, serving students from across our GGUSD schools.
The Virtual Learning Academy is an Independent Study program designed to provide a flexible, interactive, and personalized educational experience that supports both academic growth and lifelong success.
For our elementary school students, the program offers daily, synchronous instruction in language arts, math, social studies, science, and physical education. In addition, students engage in enriching lessons in art, music, technology, and socio-emotional learning.
Students in grades seven through twelve access a comprehensive online curriculum that includes all courses required for high school graduation. Our high school students take A-G aligned courses and a wide range of electives to ensure they are well-prepared for college and career opportunities. Weekly synchronous lessons help support mindfulness, self-regulation, and socioemotional well-being.
To support our students’ personal development and help them build meaningful connections, we offer virtual field trips, club activities, spirit assemblies, and award ceremonies. Students are also invited to our campus for in-person tutoring and special events. We are proud to offer family-oriented opportunities as well, such as family fun nights and parent education sessions.
As we move forward together, I want to thank you for your trust, your support, and your partnership. I am honored to work alongside our dedicated staff and supportive families to empower our students to become confident, capable, and compassionate lifelong learners.
Phoenix Family!
With sincere appreciation,
Eric Hansen
Interim Principal
